Did you know that Superman's people, the Kryptonians, never had the ability to fly back on Krypton, and nothing about the yellow sun explains how they ever gained such an ability.. So how is it that superman can fly around and save almost anyone in need?.. Well personally I’ve always loved John Byrne’s explanation for superman powers, because although not-canon it makes the most sense overall.. He says that superman doesn't actually gain his many abilities when under the yellow sun, he gains but 2 things, one an ability to absorb an extreme amount of energy, and two the ability to use this energy to enhance his baseline psychic powers.. That's right, he claims superman's powers are psychic in nature, and honestly he may be right, because his strength, durability, speed, and flight are all forms of telekinesis, his heat vision is pyrokinesis, his freeze breath can easily be seen as cryokinesis.. And if that wasn’t shocking enough in Man of Steel, Byrne snuck in the fact that if clarks clothes were not skin tight then they’d be destroyed, implying that there exists a telekinetic force field around clarks body, which also in turn makes him the man of steel.. So according to John Byrne, Clark and other Krytonians can fly because they are unconsciously lifting themselves with their mind. .............................................................................................................
