ARTICLE FROM GOLDEN ABOUT ADDING WATER TO ACRYLICS Common recommendations for thinning acrylics with water are usually a 1:1 ratio of water to paint as the maximum. But Goldens research has proven you can add much more water. They currently recommended limit is 1 part paint to 20 parts water. Even at 100 parts water they said that adhesion wasn't an issue.
