AI BUBBLE Google's CEO is in the news for comments he made about the "AI Bubble", warning it might burst. As I'm sure you are aware, artificial intelligence is kind of booming at the moment, but with the value of AI tech companies soaring, come fears, in Silicon Valley and beyond, of a bubble that might just burst. So what is a bubble in this context? Well, let's say this bubble here is the AI market; it starts about this big, but as more and more people invest in AI, it inflates, getting bigger and bigger. This is good news for investors, because their shares are now worth more money. The thing is, a bubble cannot stay inflated forever; it has to either burst or be carefully deflated. That's not so good news for investors, and, depending on how big the bubble is, not so good news for the economy. While some experts reckon these fears are overblown, some even argue there isn't an AI bubble at all, others have been raising their concerns. A lot of people are saying the AI boom right now feels very similar to the last big tech bubble, known as the 2000s dotcom bubble, when the values of internet companies soared because everyone was really excited about this brand new thing called the World Wide Web, but then the bubble burst and many shares collapsed in price. So many people will be watching closely to see whether or not history will repeat itself. ROBLOX AGE VERIFICATION Roblox is getting new age-verification features, and Australia is first in line to test them out. Starting today, users can opt in to have their age estimated with facial scanning, which Roblox says will help keep kids safe by preventing them from chatting to people outside their age group. It'll become compulsory in the first week of December, right before the under-16s social media ban kicks in. Roblox is currently exempt from the ban, and it seems they're hoping these new features will keep it that way. WORD OF THE YEAR Cambridge Dictionary has just revealed its Word of the Year for 2025, and it's "parasocial". Cambridge dictionary defines it as: involving or relating to a connection that someone feels between themselves and a famous person they do not know, a character in a book, film, TV series, etc., or an artificial intelligence. Cambridge Dictionary says “parasocial” was chosen because of the rise of people feeling like they have a connection with celebrities through social media, as well as AI chatbots being used for conversation, even friendship. Other words the dictionary has been tracking include: Glazing, Bias, Vibey, and Doom Spending. AI THEATRE First up, to a group of theatre scholars and AI engineers, who have teamed up to make a theatre show in the style of famous French playwright Moliere, by using his existing work, like scripts, and original sketches, to write a completely new story, and even design the costumes. They're going to debut the show at the Chateau de Versailles in May next year. JAPAN BEAR DRONE Now we're heading to Japan, where authorities have started using drones equipped with megaphones and fireworks to keep bears at bay. Bear attacks have been a big problem in parts of Japan this year, the country's seen a record 220 attacks since April. The situation has gotten so bad that the army was sent in to parts of northern Japan to help authorities trap bears earlier this month. Now, the United States, China, and the UK have all issued travel advice for their citizens, warning them about the situation. __________________________________________ Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/behindthenews...
