For A Whole New Level, Dr. Robert Lustig and Mike Haney discuss key pancreatic biomarkers to get checked. Insulin is a hormone the beta cells of your pancreas release; it signals cells throughout your body to uptake glucose. When you become insulin resistant, your beta cells become overworked. If your pancreas is starting to fail and can’t produce enough insulin, then you want to look at other markers, such as C-peptide. C-peptide is a piece of the insulin molecule that’s cleaved out to make mature insulin. First, your beta cells make a pro-hormone called pro-insulin. If the pancreas is stressed because blood glucose is high, because of insulin resistance, your pancreas tries to get your blood glucose down any way it can. So it releases pro-insulin. Your beta cells shouldn’t be releasing pro-insulin; they should be releasing insulin. You can measure pro-insulin in the blood; high pro-insulin will reveal an issue with your beta cells. #metabolichealth #bloodwork #biomarkers #pancreas #insulin Get Your Free Ultimate Guide to Glucose: https://levels.link/shorts 👋 WHO WE ARE: Levels helps you see how food affects your health.
