At the time of the plagues, the Israelites, who were God’s chosen people, were living as enslaved peoples in Egypt. They were undergoing a great deal of suffering and were crying out to God to save them from their circumstances. God heard their cries and appointed a man named Moses to lead them out of Egypt. Moses began by asking the Pharaoh to release the Israelites, but he refused. It was in response to the Pharaoh’s refusal that God sent the 10 plagues. The plagues were intended to force Pharaoh’s hand and make him release the Israelites from Egypt. Here is the list of the 10 plagues of Egypt in order: 1. Water turned to blood (Exodus 7:17-18). 2. Plague of frogs (Exodus 8:2-4). 3. Plague of lice or gnats (Exodus 8:16-17). 4. Plague of flies (Exodus 8:21-22). 5. Plague of livestock (Exodus 9:1-4). 6. Plague of boils (Exodus 9:8-9). 7. Plague of hail (Exodus 9:22-23). 8. Plague of locust (Exodus 10:4-5). 9. Plague of darkness (Exodus 10:21-22) 10. Plague of the firstborn (Exodus 11:4-7) Here in this movie clip it shows Plague of hail and darkness “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt—on man, on beast, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.’ And Moses stretched out his rod toward heaven; and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire darted to the ground. And the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt” (Exodus 9:22-23). Next, the plague of hail hit the Egyptian people. The hail involved in this plague was not like any that we have seen today. The Bible describes the hail that pelted down on Egypt as huge, destructive balls of ice that left no living thing unharmed. Some people were wise enough to seek shelter inside, but those who didn’t were killed on the spot. Again, the land of Goshen, where the Israelites lived, was completely untouched. This plague seemed to get through to the Pharaoh, as we see in Exodus that he sent for Moses and acknowledged his wrongdoings. For a second time, the Pharaoh promised to let God’s people go if the plague would stop. God stopped the hail, but Pharaoh did not let the Israelites go free. Plague of darkness The penultimate plague cast a cloak of darkness over Egypt. This darkness lasted for a number of days. During this time, the Egyptians trembled in fear, as not a glimmer of light could be seen across the land. The Israelites continued on as normal during this time in the land of Goshen, where the light still remained. This plague prompted further bargaining from the Pharaoh, but he was still not willing to offer the Israelites complete freedom. Moses left their meeting by warning the Pharaoh that the final plague would be the most devastating of all. He informed the Pharaoh that, at midnight, God would pass over the land of Egypt, and kill the firstborn of both humans and animals. Only the Israelite children would be allowed to survive this plague. ________________________________________________________________________________________ The Ten Commandments (1956 Film) The Ten Commandments is a 1956 American epic religious drama film produced, directed, and narrated by Cecil B. DeMille, shot in VistaVision (color by Technicolor), and released by Paramount Pictures. The film is based on the 1949 novel Prince of Egypt by Dorothy Clarke Wilson and the Book of Exodus, found in the Bible. The Ten Commandments dramatizes the biblical story of the life of Moses, an adopted Egyptian prince who becomes the deliverer of his real brethren, the enslaved Hebrews, and thereafter leads the Exodus to Mount Sinai, where he receives, from God, the Ten Commandments. The film stars Charlton Heston in the lead role, Yul Brynner as Rameses, Anne Baxter as Nefretiri, Edward G. Robinson as Dathan, Yvonne De Carlo as Zipporah, Debra Paget as Lilia, and John Derek as Joshua; and features Sir Cedric Hardwicke as Seti I, Nina Foch as Bithiah, Martha Scott as Yochabel, Judith Anderson as Memnet, and Vincent Price as Baka. Filmed on location in Egypt, Mount Sinai, and the Sinai Peninsula, The Ten Commandments was DeMille's most successful work, his first widescreen film, his fourth biblical production, and his final directorial effort. ________________________________________________________________________________________ #TheTenCommandments #Moses #MosesInTheLandOfMidian #Hindi #biblestories
