An Epic Bach Countersubject

Maybe not as much as the G-minor Fugue in Book 2, however, this one's still pretty epic! It's the countersubject from Fugue No. 12 in F-minor (BWV 857) from Book 1 of The Well-Tempered Clavier (1722) by J.S. Bach. Woo hoo, it's a fun one!⛷️ This countersubject is 26 notes in length and is very conspicuous, with its series of assertive sixteenth note interjections, each of which begins with a rest. The rhythmic content of this countersubject really helps to propel the music forward, I find, and the presence of it throughout the rest of the Fugue is quite easily recognizable! As mentioned in a recent video, according to Roger Bullivant, in his book, Fugue, from 1971, the countersubject in Bach's Fugue No. 16 in G-minor (BWV 885) from Book 2 of The Well-Tempered Clavier, is "one of the most conspicuous countersubjects written.."
