It’s 25 years since Codemasters launched Colin McRae Rally on the original PlayStation, bringing the world of rallying to a new generation of gaming fans. Thankfully, the British studio did the subject matter justice, providing a fun, yet realistic take on the World Rally Championship. Featuring believable handling, authentic pacenotes provided by Nicky Grist and impressive graphics, Colin McRae Rally became a firm favourite with critics and gamers alike. It also helped propel Colin McRae into the hearts and minds of PlayStation owners across the globe, as the laconic Scotsman’s ‘if in doubt, flat-out' mentality endeared him to a new legion of fans. Colin McRae Rally led to numerous sequels and the more ‘extreme’ Colin McRae: DiRT games, which continued even after McRae’s untimely death in 2007, with Codemasters (and EA) continuing to develop titles with his inimitable style in mind to the present day. EA has cancelled EA SPORTS WRC and the Codemasters rally team. Hear and watch all about the news in our dedicated Traxion Control Podcast: • EA Kills Codemasters? Project Motor Racing...
