Today's Gospel Reading & Gospel Reflection - Today's Catholic Gospel Reading & Mass Reflection -Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles, Saturday, October 28, 2023 ( Mass Readings) - Catholic Gospel Reading and Mass Reflection Feast of Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles 1st Reading Ephesians 2:19-22 Responsorial Psalm Psalms 19:2-3, 4-5 The Acclamation See Te Deum Gospel Luke 6:12-16 Today’s Reflection on the Readings My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, in today’s Gospel Reading from Luke 6:12-16, we find that Jesus Prayed and then chose twelve apostles. My dearly beloved friends, Jesus is willing and able to use all of us if we are willing, but willingness is the key. Many disciples didn’t get chosen to be apostles, and many people who after following Jesus for a while, turned back. Some of them had too many responsibilities at home. Some of them didn’t like what Jesus was teaching. Some of them wanted to wait until they were rich. And so, they could follow Jesus without worrying about food and clothing. Some of them had fields to plow seeds to plant and a harvest to bring in. As a result of all these things they thought were more important than following Christ, they missed out on the most important event in the universe's history – God coming in the flesh and walking among us. But the twelve followed Jesus as disciples and were chosen for the great privilege of being apostles. Just like us, they were not perfect; they had their flaws. The twelve apostles were human, just like us. They had their strengths and weaknesses. They made their share of mistakes. Each of them is different, showing us that there is no one kind of person God is looking to use. But that is why God was able to glorify Himself through them. Today Jesus wants to do the same through you and me. Are we willing to be His disciples? To answer when He calls? To follow where He leads? To go where He sends? To listen to Him teach? To learn, at His feet? Let us reflect, review, and act. Prayer Lord Jesus, help me to always pray whenever I want to make a big decision. Let me follow Your example of praying and always seeking the presence of the Father in my life. Help me to have deep communion with You, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
