THE WOMAN KING

The Woman King is about the kingdom of Dahomey in the present day Benin Republic in West Africa, with a new King in 1823, who possess the only female army known as Agojie. A battle tested general trains a new generation of female warriors to protect their kingdom from a powerful foe. After provoking the empire of Oyo by liberating enslaved women, General Nanisca prepares to face the wrath along with the Agojie against the Oba Ade led Oyo Empire Soldiers. The Woman King is a 2022 American Period Action-Adventure Drama Film, set in the 1920s, the film stars Viola Davis as a General who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies. The film stars also Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atom, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and John Boyega amongst others. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Dana Stevens and based on a story written by Maria Bello. In the ancient Oyo Empire, the Army General, Aare Ona Kakanfo is expected to kill himself when defeated at war. That is the reason Oba Ade can’t go back home because they will be killed.
