Czerny: Left Hand Etude, Op. 718 No. 1

Carl Czerny's 24 Studies for the Left Hand, while composed for two hands, are designed to focus on specific left hand weaknesses. This etude in particular focuses on scales in connection with broken triads; essentially alternating between playing with an open or closed hand position. Grade: 10* Grade levels for this project are taken from Jane Magrath’s “Piano Literature for Teaching and Performance: A Graded Guide and Annotated Bibliography” *Grade levels are entirely subjective. Some of the etudes from this set (such as Op. 718 No. 3 and No. 7) are listed at RCM level 5 or 6, while other sources list the entire Op. 718 set as grade level 10. Grade levels for these are entirely dependent on tempo.
