Sunday April 14th 1912: RMS Titanic enoute from Southampton to New York with 2,208 Passengers and Crew plowed into an iceberg at full speed slicing open twelve feet of her hull and flooding five of her watertight compartments. At 2:20 AM April 15 1912, Titanic split in half and plunged into the abyss taking 1,523 passengers and crew members to a watery grave. The final break down of survivors was as thus 1st Class: 335 Aboard, 202 Survived. 2nd Class: 285 Aboard, 114 Survived. Steerage/3rd Class: 706 Aboard(with 79 of them being children) only 178 survived and of the 79 Children in Third Class, 52 went down with the ship. Crew: 885 Aboard, only 215 Survived. Trivia: the picture at 2:23 is Violet Jessope, who was serving as a nurse and stewardess on the Titanic the night it sank and survived the disaster. Ironically, she was also aboard RMS Olympic when it collided with the cruiser HMS Hawke in 1911, and HMHS Britannic when it struck a mine and sank, and once again she survived both.
