Allegri - Miserere Mei, Deus

With text from Psalm 51, Allegri’s Miserere (“Have mercy on me, O God”) was composed circa 1638 and for a time was not permitted to be transcribed, nor performed outside the Sistine Chapel. Popular belief holds that Mozart transcribed the work more than a century later to great acclaim, partly contributing to its lasting popularity as an a cappella choral work. This excerpted version will be part of our Good Friday concert on April 2, 2021 at 8pm, with additional members of The Metropolitan Choir joining us from home.
