#7 LM5 (2018) “Love a Girl Right” is an upbeat song about warning your friend’s new boyfriend to treat her right. Jade Thirlwall talked about interpolating “Thong Song”, stating: "We loved the idea of turning an iconic ‘men’s’ song about feeling a girl, into a woman’s empowering anthem about treating a girl right" Via Instagram, on now deleted highlight “making #LM5”, Jade Thirlwall posted some never seen before pictures and videos of the days they recorded “Love a Girl Right” and said this: "It was written the same day as “Strip”. We had tried Leigh’s concept in a few different sessions and finally found the right way of doing it when we were all together. We loved the idea of turning an iconic “man’s” song about feeling a girl into a woman’s empowering anthem about treating a girl right. ‘Cause girls, we’ve all been there where we gotta let our friend’s new fella know he better treat her how she deserves or there’ll be hell to pay. Brought a guitarrist into the session to do the chorus, as originally the sample would just be guitar, but we ended up writing over the Thong Song melody too" "Well, we were drunk. But we were really pumped, because we always wanted to write a song that’s a message to our boyfriends: Treat my girl right otherwise I’m coming for you! We twisted the [original] song from being about women in thongs to a positive girl-power anthem, so we’re proud of that. — Leigh-Anne via Billboard
