Learn how to ride an adventure bike off-road with the help of our James and the Honda Adventure Centre’s head coach, Pat Jackson. This series, filmed at the Adventure Bike Rider Festival, will take you through the essential off-road riding skills you need to safely negotiate the trails. In this episode we cover how to get on your bike off-road, the easy way. This, apparently simple task, can so often result in riders coming a cropper when they’re on uneven ground. Watch as Pat teaches James two ways to mount a Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin on uneven ground, with the side stand down, and without, With the side stand down, James is shown to crank the handlebars away from the stand to give the bike a larger footprint. Pat then tells him to grab the front brake, step onto the near side footpeg, swing his leg over, set it down on the other footpeg, and then check the ground on the other side before rocking the bike on to its wheels. Then Pat moves on to the more challenging mount, without the sidestand, which is how to do it on soft ground. He tells James to channel his inner superman and lean forward to allow his leg to swing all the way over to the other side of the Honda and set it down, without the aid of the side stand. We hope these tips and tricks help with mastering your motorcycle, whether you are just starting out off-road riding, or are a seasoned off-road rider looking for a quick refresher.
