Bushclass Intermediate - 5 Natural Tinders

Bushclass Intermediate - 5 Natural Tinders

This video is for a Bushclass Intermediate assignment, the goal to demonstrate the ability to ignite 5 natural, gathered, tinders with a firesteel. For more information on Bushclass visit http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/forumdi... I chose to limit myself to only tinders I could find in my own yard. I started out collecting the fluff still remaining in a few milkweed pods. Milkweed fluff is a "flash tinder' and went up very quickly. Secondly, I used the top of a stalk of Pampass grass, which burned more slowly and looks like it would be a good candidate for charring. I then gathered a few heads from some grass stalks that were sticking out of the snow. I also shaved some curls off of a twig, those caught and burned very nicely despite sitting on top of about a foot of snow. Lastly, I managed to find some (relatively) dry dead leaves that had been caught in the branches of a pine tree ( and thus sheltered from the snow). They were a little bit damp, but burned fairly well once caught. Please excuse my loud breathing throughout, as I was recovering from a bad cold and could only breathe through my mouth.
