Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh Attends as Chief Guest Dehradun (Correspondent: Anil Rawat): On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, a solemn commemorative programme was organized at the Shaurya Sthal, Chid Bagh in the state capital Dehradun. The event was graced by the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmit Singh, as the Chief Guest. He, along with Director of Doon Defence Academy, Sandeep Gupta, and several veterans, paid heartfelt tributes to the supreme sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces. Addressing the gathering, DDA Director Sandeep Gupta said that Vijay Diwas instills a deep sense of pride and patriotism among Indians. Extending his greetings to the Indian Armed Forces, ex-servicemen, and the people of the state, he remarked that 16 December holds a historic place in India’s military history, symbolising the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces. He recalled that on this day, the unparalleled valour and strategic brilliance of Indian soldiers compelled thousands of Pakistani troops to surrender. Emphasising the unwavering commitment of India’s soldiers, he said that the nation takes immense pride in the fact that its brave warriors are always prepared to safeguard the country’s sovereignty. Highlighting Uttarakhand’s legacy, Gupta said that the state is not only Devbhoomi but also Veerbhoomi, where patriotism and dedication to the nation have always been deeply rooted. He stressed that the supreme sacrifices made by soldiers in defence of the nation’s borders will forever be remembered with reverence. On the occasion, senior officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with veterans, also paid floral tributes to the martyrs. It is noteworthy that Vijay Diwas is observed on 16 December to commemorate India’s decisive victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Following the war, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered, marking one of the largest military surrenders since World War II. The war was fought jointly by the Indian and Bangladeshi forces, leading to the liberation of East Pakistan, which emerged as the independent nation of Bangladesh. During the 1971 war, approximately 3,900 Indian soldiers laid down their lives, while 9,851 were wounded. The Pakistani forces in East Pakistan, led by Lieutenant General A.A.K. Niazi, formally surrendered before Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora, the then Eastern Command Chief of the Indian Army. On 17 December, the surrendered Pakistani troops were taken as prisoners of war. #VijayDiwas 🇮🇳 #IndianArmedForces #SaluteToBravehearts 🔗 Important Links 🔗 To remain connected with DDA, the important links are given below To download the prospectus of DDA, CLICK ON THE LINK GIVEN BELOW: https://doondefenceacademy.com/wp-con... 🌐 Website: https://www.doondefenceacademy.com/ 📝 Blog: https://doondefenceacademy.com/blog/ 🏡 Our Social Media Links 🏡 🔵 Facebook:   / doondefence   📲WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va5p... 🐦 Twitter:   / doondefence   📸 Instagram:   / doondefenceacademy   ▶️ YouTube:    / sandeepsirdoondefenceacademy   🔗 LinkedIn:   / doondefenceacademy   📲 Telegram: https://t.me/sandeepsirdda 📥 Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de... 📥Download Our Trishakti Application From the Apple Store - https://apps.apple.com/pw/app/trishak... 📞 Admission Assistance 📞 ☎️ 9897030757, 7895616868, 7895626868, 8979558001 💬 WhatsApp Assistance 💬 📱 7060016868 #DoonDefenceAcademy #DDA #NDA #NDA2026 #NDA2027 #NDA155 #NDASelection #NDAAspirants #DefenceAspirants #UPSCNDA #FutureOfficers #DefenceCoaching #BestDefenceAcademy #VartikaSingh #ShreyasBiswal #AdityaTripathi #AnkitChaudhary #SuccessStory #DDAAchievers #AdmissionsOpen #NDAPreparation #JoinNDA #IndianDefence #OfficerInMaking
