Over 2000 years ago---Jesus was asked by his disciples to “Teach them to pray”. This implies that “true” prayer…prayer that touches the heart of God… requires some degree of instruction and guidance. These disciples grew up in synagogues all their life. They recited prayers all their life. They prayed---He prayed. But there was one real difference---Jesus obtained results!! Take this little journey with me as I teach on the Lord's prayer in both the King James an Aramaic tongue. God Bless The Lord’s prayer (as some call it) are almost identical in both Gospels with just a few minor differences. But even more significant than these minor differences is this: Jesus never said either of those things. Jesus spoke in a dialect of the Aramaic language. It is not important to God which translation you use----as long as you KNOW the God to whom you are praying to. Jesus wanted them to know the Father as “Daddy”. Jesus wanted to teach them the difference between a hypocritical prayer life and sincere prayer life. He wanted to teach them the difference between The length of prayer----and the strength of prayer. It is not a script to be recited. I have translated the Lord's prayer from Aramaic to english, look at the differences, "Oh Thou, from whom the breath of life comes, who fills all realms of sound, light and vibration. May Your light be experienced in my utmost holiest. Your Heavenly Domain approaches. Let Your will come true - in the universe (all that vibrates) just as on earth (that is material and dense). Give us wisdom (understanding, assistance) for our daily need, detach the fetters of faults that bind us, like we let go the guilt of others. Let us not be lost in superficial things (materialism, common temptations), but let us be freed from that what keeps us off from our true purpose. From You comes the all-working will, the lively strength to act, the song that beautifies all and renews itself from age to age. Sealed in trust, faith and truth. Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV) 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
