TDI? Hold on, whats going on… have they gone mad? The progress is truly upon us ladies and gentlemen so lets dive right in. We will concentrate on technology behind the newest S4 as other bits are just evolutionary and not revolutionary like the new powertrain. In terms of design there is the front and rear lights refreshment to bring it up to date with other models in the Audi lineup which now focuses on vertical lines for the lights and those gaps between grille and bonnet Also cant forget the bar connecting rear lamps, I think its very stylish, what do you think, let me know in the comments below. The well known Audi V6 diesel has 3 litres in this case that blends the brawny efficiency with high performance. Hope they didnt forget about the sound, but I remember test-driving the first SQ5 and it sounded mighty. The S4 comes with an output capacity of 347 BHP, and a torque of 700 Nm accessible between 2500 and 3100 rpm. It can accelerate from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and returns economy of 45mpg It also has the ability to reach a top speed of 250 km/h (155.3 mph) that is obviously locked by the ECU, because Im sure it could do well more than that The S4 TDI drive system has been incorporated with the EPC and the mild hybrid technology (MHEV) both embedded with the regular 48-volt major electrical system. This is the first time the mild hybrid technology in the S4 will be powered by a solid 48-volt belt alternator It can help acceleration by filling the gaps between the regular turbo spooling up So in other words we have some F1 tech onboard a 4-door saloon The system can also recuperate energy from braking that allows it to increase economy by 5mpg Also worth mentioning is the fact that at a speed between 40 and 110 miles per hour, the car can coast for about 40 seconds cause that lithium-ion battery does not stop supplying electricity. The drive management computer decides the most efficient operation - whether freewheeling, coasting or recuperating. The data from the on-board sensors and satellite navigation system is used to achieve this. Apart from reducing the rate of fuel consumption, the mild hybrid technology also increases ease and comfort. The BAS - belt Alternator starter - is used for stop-start technology to speed up the restart of the engine, when stopped the engine restarts as soon as the car in fron t moves even when brake pedal is depressed. Impressive? Yea I thought so too. The 3.0 TDI jointly operates with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission system that allows high-efficient and easy gear shifting. Shifting as you might imagine takes miliseconds. A clutch in the central transmission interrupts the flow of power when the car is rolling and the engine is either idling or shut off. When coasting, an electric oil pump independent of the combustion engine makes it possible to engage the gear required at restart. Sounds complicated, hope it won’t break right after the warranty expires ;] And then theres The Quattro, cant forget about the Quattro can we? When pushing the car hard, the wheel-selective torque control helps maintain driving line. As a complement to the quattro drive, the sport differential is available upon request. It can shift the power between the rear wheels as required during dynamic cornering. Sound like fun? So there you have it - all you need to know about the new S4 TDI.
