Following the welcome and a prelude of "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly," the worship began with a responsive call to worship, the Prayer of the Day, and the singing of "What Child Is This." After the confession, words of assurance, and passing of the peace, the service included a time for children and a reading from Isaiah 63, followed by special music featuring "Once in Royal David’s City." The Gospel reading from Luke 2:22-38 preceded the message, "The Hopeful Waiters," written by Richard P. Olson. The congregation responded with the hymn "Mary and Joseph Came to the Temple" and the Prayers of the People, then presented their offering during an arrangement of "Go Tell It on the Mountain." The celebration concluded with the hymn "Love Has Come," a final blessing, and a postlude of "Do You Hear What I Hear."
