In Pittsburgh, Joel and Ellie meet two brothers, Henry and Sam. They collaborate to escape, but Sam gets bitten by an infected. Henry kills Sam after he transforms and attacks Ellie. Months later, Joel and Ellie reunite with Tommy in Jackson, Wyoming. They disagree over giving Ellie to the Fireflies for her immunity. Ellie is hurt when Joel considers this, but they eventually set off together to find the Fireflies in Colorado.
