Star Wars: Episode 6: Return of the Jedi (May 25th, 1983) The story begins with Emperor Palpatine arriving at the second Death Star to oversee its construction. He tells Darth Vader that Luke Skywalker will come to them and that only together can they turn him to the dark side of the Force. On Tatooine, the heroes work to rescue Han Solo, who is still frozen in carbonite and held in the palace of Jabba the Hutt. R2-D2 and C-3PO arrive at the palace as supposed gifts for Jabba, but they are secretly part of Luke Skywalker’s rescue plan. Leia, disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh, brings Chewbacca in as a prisoner and later frees Han from the carbonite chamber. The reunion is short-lived as Leia is captured and enslaved by Jabba. Luke arrives at Jabba’s palace to negotiate Han’s release, but Jabba refuses and drops Luke into the rancor pit. Luke kills the rancor, yet Jabba sentences Luke, Han, and Chewbacca to be fed to the Sarlacc. At the Sarlacc pit, Luke signals R2-D2 to launch his lightsaber. A battle breaks out as Luke, Han, and Lando fight Jabba’s guards. Boba Fett joins the fray, but Han damages his jetpack, sending him into the Sarlacc’s mouth where the creature swallows him. Leia kills Jabba with her chain, and the heroes destroy the sail barge before escaping. Luke travels to Dagobah with R2-D2 to finish his Jedi training. He finds Yoda gravely ill. Yoda tells Luke that his training is complete, confirms that Vader is his father, and warns him he must face Vader again to truly become a Jedi. After Yoda’s death, Obi-Wan’s spirit appears to Luke, revealing that Leia is his sister and explaining that they are the galaxy’s only hope for defeating the Emperor. Meanwhile, the Rebel Alliance plans to destroy the second Death Star, which is protected by a shield generator on the forest moon of Endor. Han leads a strike team that includes Leia, Luke, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO to take down the generator. On Endor, the team encounters Imperial scouts, leading to a high-speed chase through the forests on speeder bikes. Leia is separated from the others and meets the Ewok Wicket, who takes her to his village. Later, Luke, Han, and Chewbacca are captured by the Ewoks, but C-3PO is mistaken for a god and convinces them to join the Rebels. That night, Luke tells Leia she is his sister and reveals that Vader is his father. He explains that he must face Vader, and he leaves to surrender himself while the rest of the group prepares to attack the shield generator. Viewer Questions: 1.
