We took the dogs to the Calico Basin / Calico Hills area of Red Rock National Park (The free part! lol)... Once you climb up, you get great greats on Las Vegas on one side and Red Rock National Park on the other. What more could you ask for! Rain maybe! ------ Calico Hills Distance 2-6 miles; Average time: 1.5 – 3.5 hrs; Difficulty: MODERATE This trail runs along the base of the Calico Rocks from Calico Basin to Sandstone Quarry. Distance is variable since the trail can be accessed at either end or from either of the two Calico parking areas. A side trail runs from the fee booth parking lot and connects with this trail (2 – 6 miles, easy to moderate). --------- Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area lies in Nevada’s Mojave Desert. It’s known for geological features such as towering red sandstone peaks and the Keystone Thrust Fault, as well as Native American petroglyphs. Panoramic viewing spots dot the 13-mile Scenic Drive. The sheltered Ice Box Canyon has seasonal waterfalls. To the south, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park features historic buildings and hiking trails.
