My dear friends in this lecture we will discuss Cannizzaro Reaction. The Cannizzaro reaction is a redox reaction where two molecules of a aldehyde (no alpha-hydrogen) react with a strong base (like NaOH) to undergo disproportionation, yielding one molecule of a primary alcohol and one molecule of a carboxylic acid salt.  Example NaOH 2HCHO. ------------- CH3OH + HCOONa ( Formaldehyde) ( Not alpha - H)
