Cab Ride Gent-Sint-Pieters → Leuven (Belgium, June 2026) Train Driver's View 4K

Join us for a cab-ride journey of 88.3 km across the heart of Belgium, departing Gent-Sint-Pieters station and arriving at Leuven station in Flemish Brabant. The train pulls out of Ghent eastward along the L50 mainlines, crossing the Stropbrug bridge over the river Scheldt before passing through Merelbeke, Melle, and Wetteren as the route threads through the Dender valley toward Aalst. From Aalst the line follows the Dender river through Erembodegem and Denderleeuw, where it joins the quad-track L50A mainline toward Brussels. On this stretch all four tracks allow up to 160 km/h, with the inner two reserved for direct and non-stop services. The route crosses the Zeventien Viaduct, spanning 620 m, before entering Brussels. The train calls at Brussel-Zuid, descends into the Noord-Zuidverbinding — the 3.8 km tunnel running beneath the centre of Brussels — and serves Brussel-Centraal and Brussel-Noord. Construction of the Noord-Zuidverbinding began in 1911 and the connection opened on 4 October 1952; it remains the busiest rail artery in Belgium. The Belgian main-line network throughout this journey runs on 3 kV DC electrification. North of Brussels the line continues through Schaerbeek station, Diegem, Zaventem, and Kortenberg, where the inner tracks are built for up to 200 km/h. After Herent the high-speed tracks diverge into a tunnel, while the train switches to the outer tracks for the final approach into Leuven station, situated on railway line 36. The journey moves from the open Flemish countryside around Ghent, through the layered infrastructure beneath Brussels, to the quieter eastern approach into Leuven.
