Hey everyone, I decided to do a Christmas video project this year after taking a hiatus for the past couple of years. Because of this, I did not remember the amount of time and effort it took to make a video/audio project at a high level and ended up scheduling myself too little time to complete it. After a few sleepless nights, this project is unfortunately being released two days after its intended release on Christmas day. :( I chose Chris August’s “Come Now Our King” as my starting point for the project and decided to add some rhumba/cuban influence to it. I tried to go with nearly all acoustic instruments and thus recorded on an upright piano this year instead of on my keyboard. I had the great honor of working with three excellent musicians on this project. Elias Grimsley brought his incredibly musical drum set playing to the project and orchestrated each section beautifully. Additionally, he played a virtuosic conga part on this song that brought the rhumba/cuban influence I was looking for squarely into the recording. Michael Collings brought his steady and solid upright bass playing to this song and carefully balanced the interplay between the offbeat sections of the piece and the downbeat hits. Always the professional, he made choices that helped contrast each section and better serve the music. Connie Stiles brought her wonderful singing to this project and did so on very short notice from me. Her attention to detail and ability to match phrasing really made the harmony vocals on this project happen! Despite being late, I hope this video serves as a way to say Merry Christmas and thanks to all of you out there who have supported and encouraged me as a musician! Enjoy!
