1968 CHEVY CAMARO - THE SUPER SPORT EDITION

1968 CHEVY CAMARO - THE SUPER SPORT EDITION

To get the Camaro Super Sport this year you had to order the $ 211 SS package comprising stiffer springs and shocks, D70-14 Firestone Wide Oval tires, modified hood with extra sound insulation, SS emblems and " bumblebee" nose stripes. A 396 big block V8, like this one has, became available during the year at nearly $ 400. Also tempting Camaro buyers : custom carpeting, bucket seats, fold down back seat, luxury interior, full instrumentation, and console shifters for the optional Turbo Hydra-Matic, heavy duty three speed manual and four speed manual. The styling of the 1968 Camaro was very similar to the 1967 design. With the introduction of Astro Ventilation, a fresh-air-inlet system, the side vent windows were deleted. Side marker lights were added on the front and rear fenders which was a government requirement for all 1968 vehicles. It also had a more pointed front grille and divided rear taillights. The front running lights (on non-RS models) were also changed from circular to oval. The big-block SS models received chrome hood inserts that imitated velocity stacks and low-gloss black rear tail light panel. A total of all Camaro offerings came to 235,147 units of which 27,884 were Super Sports either a convertible or this hardtop coupe. The base price of this Camaro hardtop with the V8 engine and selected options was around $2,694. Although this Camaro SS isn't quite the factory issue, it still shows as a spectacular muscle car.
