I've got a sheet open here that I've zoomed in on so you can see everything clearly. In this sheet, I've got two columns: "title" and "other thing." I've sneakily added some duplicates in the "title" column to show you how to spot and remove them. You'll see entries like "this is a dupe" appearing more than once amidst other unique entries. If you're looking to get rid of these duplicates, it's actually pretty straightforward. Although there are a few ways to do it, I'll show you the most direct method. First, highlight the column with duplicates. If your data spans multiple columns, make sure to highlight them all to keep everything in sync. For this example, we're just focusing on one column. Next, head up to the "Data" menu, then look for "Data cleanup," and select "Remove duplicates." A dialog box will pop up, asking you to confirm the columns you're working with. Since we're only dealing with one column here, we'll leave it set to column A. Hit the green "Remove duplicates" button, and voilà, Google Sheets will work its magic, identifying and removing any duplicates, leaving you with a clean dataset. It's really that simple. This tool is incredibly handy, especially if you're dealing with large datasets where manually spotting duplicates could be like finding a needle in a haystack. After running this, you'll see that Google Sheets has removed the duplicate entries, keeping just the unique ones. So, whether you have a handful of rows or thousands, this method efficiently cleans up your sheet by removing all duplicates except the first instance it finds. And just like that, your data is neat and tidy, free of any pesky duplicates. Hopefully, this quick guide makes managing your Google Sheets a bit easier.
