The Ben Stokes-led side is still trailing by 43 runs in order avoid innings defeat and it has to pull off a miracle in order to avoid going 0-2 down before going to Adelaide for the third Test! Earlier in the day Australia's tail wagged to get them to a huge first innings score of 511 before England finally knocked hosts over just before the dinner break. After the top and middle order scored runs at will on Day two secure lead Carey and Mitchell Starc hit half-centuries getting good support from Scott Boland and Brendan Doggett to pile on agony over England. All of Australia's 11 batters got into the double figures to make the matter worse for the visitors. Boland and Starc frustrated England with a 165-ball 75-run 9th wicket stand post Carey's dismissal for 63. Crawley Duckett set the stage on fire a quickfire 48-run opening stand as they came out with the right intent to wipe out 177-run advantage of Australia. Boland got rid of Duckett post the dinner break. Crictalks. WTC 2025 Live. Cricket Live. Crawley still looked good with his glorious strokes and hit 44. Just when it looked like England are in control of proceedings Michael Neser removed both set batters - Crawley and Pope - in quick succession. Mitchell Starc looking tired during his first two spells but came back to get rid of Joe Root and Jamie Smith. Amidst which England also lost Brook to Scott Boland. These wickets fell in a quick time as England collapsed from 90/1 to 128/6. KM Punk Live. Ben Stokes and Will Jacks have managed to weather the storm for a while and take the team to the end of the day's play without anymore further hiccups. Australia continue to call the shots at the Gabba banking yet another session. England’s openers gave them a lively start with 45 runs in the first 6 overs before dinner but things shifted quickly once Boland came on. A ball kept low and completely deceived Duckett who was bowled right after the interval. Crawley and Pope stitched together a steady stand but Neser removed both with sharp caught-and-bowled efforts in quick succession. Root looked promising but his stay was brief with Starc nicking him off. Brook followed edging Boland Jamie Smith was also caught behind soon after. The final session turned out to be the most dramatic of the day something happening virtually every ball. Crictalks Live. Iqbal Sports Live. WTC Live. KM Punk. Iqbal Sports. Scott Boland: It was great fun. We thought the ball was going to come alive during the night session. We just wanted to put as many balls in the right area as we could. I think we bowled really well. They always play their shots I feel like this kind of wicket with some up and down bounce if we put as many balls in the right areas they're going to give you some chances. Neser held on to a couple of great catches to get us going. Probably... I won't tell you (chuckles on being asked about his strategy). That was our main objective get some overs into the England bowlers but also to stretch out our bowling into the night session. Starc batted awesomely. It was fun bat out in the middle with him. Yeah it was a nice fun time with everything. (On niggles for Starc) Yeah! I saw that. Every fast-bowler has a little bit of pain but he seems to push through better than most.
