Diana is the GOD of the hunt, the moon, and nature from Roman mythology; the counterpart to Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt from Greek mythology. Diana is mentioned in Wonder Woman's very first appearance in All Star Comics #8. Wonder Woman is an Amazon, a race of female warriors in Greek mythology. For the purpose of the Wonder Woman character, it was the Greek gods who gave her her powers. These powers include superhuman strength and speed as well as the ability to fly. In her post-Crisis origin story, Diana was gifted the ability to fly from Hermes with the help of some winged sandals. Her fellow Amazonians engaged in wrestling and bondage play. Wonder Woman's greatest weakness was to be tied up by a man. If this were to happen, she would lose her superpowers and become helpless. Diana originally acquired the God Killer from a special tower on Themyscira, which contained the "many gifts" that the Gods gave the Amazons, believing it would be the only thing that would slay Ares the God of War. Wonder Woman can also run and fly incredibly fast with speeds reaching hypersonic levels around 3,806-7,680 mph or more, but even she starts to pale in comparison when we look at the previously mentioned raw speed of Superman Formed from clay by her mother, Queen Hippolyta, and given life by the breath of Aphrodite, she is a demi-god. The gifts she receives from the gods of the Greek pantheon explain her superhero powers, which become evident when she transforms into Wonder Woman.
