History of UFC Interim Titles http://www.defenditorsurrenderit.com/... Humor: http://www.defenditorsurrenderit.com/... There is really only one reason why a fighter will not defend the belt. They don't think they can beat the next challenger. Since Condit has been in the UFC he lost to Kampmann and almost got knocked out in a split decision victory over Ellenberger and was getting beat down in his first two rounds to MacDonald only to come back and win in the final seconds of the last round. While he has won 5 fights in a row, three of them were very close and the last fight he ran away for over 6 minutes of the fight. Sure it is smart for Condit to wait, but the UFC should never allow a fighter to just sit it out for almost a year while he is holding the interim title. The only reason why the UFC would agree to him waiting for GSP is because they also don't think he could be whoever they put in front of him. If they believed he was truly the best fighter in the WW behind GSP then they would have no problem telling him he needs to defend the title at least once. If he wants to wait it out, fine, but he needs to surrender the interim belt in the mean time. Dan Henderson is waiting for his shot at two different titles. The difference is that he is not holding some meaningless belt in the meantime. If you want to wear a belt you need to act like a champion. Sitting out for a year is hardly acting like a champion and if he wants to wait then he needs to surrender the belt and wait as long as he wants to.
