"Watch Newton's Third Law in action! This is a simple demonstration of propulsion and time-delay systems using a small bottle rocket and a cigarette. The cigarette acts as a low-tech delay fuse. The slow process of smoldering combustion provides the necessary activation energy (heat) to ignite the faster, high-energy exothermic reaction of the solid rocket propellant. The Science Behind the Launch: Action-Reaction: The rocket expels hot gas (Action) downward, which creates an equal and opposite force (Reaction/Thrust) upward, accelerating the rocket. Combustion Chemistry: The black powder propellant rapidly converts solid mass into high-volume, high-pressure gas (mostly CO₂ and N₂) to create the lift.
