Svipdagr the Cold is one of the twelve Berserkers that can be fought as an optional boss in God of War Ragnarök. She is fought alongside the Sisters of Illska. Svipdagr, along with the Sisters, can be found in Alfheim. Svipdagr (Old Norse: sudden day) is the hero of the two Old Norse Eddaic poems Grógaldr and Fjölsvinnsmál. There is a champion of the same name, possibly the same character, who appears in the prologue of the Prose Edda, in Heimskringla and Gesta Danorum. A hero named Svipdag is the one of the companions of Hrólfr Kraki. Svipdagr was a warrior in the Midgardian kingdom of Lejre who served under Hrólf Kraki, along with eleven fellow berserkers. She participated in Hrólf's seizure of the crown, where she earned the epithet "the Cold". Upon her death, Svipdagr's spirit went onto inhabit the Hilt of Skofnung. God of War Ragnarok Kratos defeated Svipdagr's spirit and channeled her powers through Skofnung. Like all Berserkers, Svipdagr the Cold is a skeleton glowing with green spectral energy. Svipdagr wears brown lamellar armor, a brown winged helmet, a red loincloth, and spiky red shoulder pauldrons. She duel wields a pair of emerald battle-axes. In life, Svipdagr was said to "sharpen her axes on the bones of her enemies." Mimir has garnished the truth before, in favor of a good story, but in this instance I cannot allow it. Bones will not sharpen weapons. If the Dwarves were to hear this, I do not doubt they would mock it furiously." Quotes "King Hrolf will rise again!" "I say enough!" "I tire of you!" "I will end you!" "Who's next? I need a challenge." "Say... that's a pretty nice axe. Think I'll take it." "Thief! That sword doesn't belong to you!" Svipdagr means "Sudden day" or "Swift day" in Old Norse. Svipdagr shares the same name as another famed champion of Norse Mythology. whose exploits are told in Svipdagsmál ("The Lay of Svipdagr"), an Eddaic poem consisting of the poems Grógaldr ("The Spell of Gróa") and Fjölsvinnsmál ("The Lay of Fjölsvinn"). In the poems, Svipdagr is tasked by his cruel stepmother to win the hand of the goddess Menglöð, which is considered to be nigh-impossible. To aid himself in accomplishing this feat, Svipdagr temporarily summons the spirit of his mother, the seeress/witch Gróa, who casts nine spells/incantations to aid her son during his journey. These two characters are not the same since the other Svipdagr is the son of Gróa, which would make him a male Jötunn (not a human Berserker) and unable to become undead. The female Svipdagr's title of "The Cold" is possibly a reference to Fjölsvinnsmál, where Svipdagr enters into a riddle contest with Fjǫlsviðr ("The very wise one", another name for Odin) under the pseudonym "Vindkaldr" ("Wind-cold", "Cold wind") #godofwar #rtxgamer #4kgaming #kratos #berserker #4khdr60fps #gowragnarok
