Our first stop is Boatella Tapas, a bustling restaurant right across from the Central Market and conveniently located downstairs from our stay. We dive into a feast featuring crispy shrimp, savory fish croquettes, fried artichokes, spicy patatas bravas, and calamari. The highlight? The anticipation of authentic Valencian paella, which is still to come. Each dish brings something new to the table—favorites included the shrimp and the spicy potatoes! 🏛️ Silk Exchange (Lonja de Seda): Gothic History & Orange Trees With our bellies full, it’s time for sightseeing. Our first destination: the Silk Exchange (Lonja de Seda), a UNESCO World Heritage Site that once housed the city’s thriving silk trade. For just 2 Euros, you can wander through its impressive Gothic halls, the palm tree-like columns of the Trading Hall, and the serene Courtyard of the Orange Trees. The upper floor, the Consulate of the Sea, showcases maritime and trade history. 🏘️ Wandering Ciutat Vella & A Hidden Gem We meander through Valencia’s charming Old Quarter (Ciutat Vella), discovering street art, local shops, and even stumbling upon the narrowest building in Europe! With no set destination, the city’s authentic character and unexpected finds take center stage. 🥤 Horchata Break at Santa Catalina With the cathedral tower closed for visits, we pop into Horchateria Santa Catalina to try horchata, a traditional Valencian drink made from tiger nuts (chufas). Paired with a sweet, spongy bread called “farton,” horchata proves divisive—but it’s a must-try for any first-timer in Valencia! ⛪ Valencia Cathedral: The Search for the Holy Grail No trip to Valencia is complete without a visit to the Valencia Cathedral. For 8 Euros, step inside this impressive church-museum hybrid, famous for housing the Holy Chalice—a contender for the true Holy Grail. 🥘 Valencian Paella & Fideuà: Classic Eats The foodie journey continues! We order Valencian Paella, made with chicken, rabbit, snails, green beans, cardo beans, rosemary, and saffron rice, all crisped to golden perfection in a thin pan. We also sample Fideuà, a noodle-based seafood dish from nearby Alicante, packed with prawns, cuttlefish, mussels, and peppers. 🏙️ The City of Arts and Sciences: Space-Age Architecture Day two brings us to the ultra-modern City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias), a sprawling architectural complex that feels straight out of the future. Highlights include the domed glass garden filled with palms and sculptures, the planetarium, interactive science museum, opera house, and event plaza. 🚲 Bike Ride in Turia Park (Jardín del Turia) Taking advantage of Valencia’s sunshine, we rent bikes for just 5 Euros (four hours!) and pedal through Turia Park, an extensive green space that winds through the city. Perfect for walking, cycling, or skating. 🥑 Central Market (Mercado Central): Local Flavors We also explore Valencia’s Central Market, the heart of the city’s food scene. While it’s mainly for locals buying fresh ingredients, visitors can snack on local specialties and traditional Spanish bites. 🌆 Nightfall in Valencia: City Lights & Farewell As night falls, we capture Valencia’s magical glow, wrapping up an unforgettable trip filled with incredible food, stunning architecture, and vibrant local culture. This city quickly shot to the top of our favorites list! Music by DJ Quads:   / aka-dj-quads
