"Traders, Kings, and Pilgrims" (part 3) It was Chapter 10 in previous editions In this third part of chapter 9, we will study about changes in religion. We have further divided this topic into two sub-topics : spread of Buddhism, and the Bhakti movement. We will study about the Kushana dynasty, King Kanishka, his court poet Ashvaghosha and the Buddhacharita. Then, we'll have a look at Mahayana Buddhism, and the use of statues of the Buddha and the practice of worshipping Bodhisattvas in it. We will also cover the spread of Buddhism, the role played by cave monasteries for traders, the idea of Theravada Buddhism. Under the Bhakti Movement, we will study the concept of Bhakti, the presence of this concept in the Bhagawad Gita, and the origin of the term Bhakti. All points in the chapter have been explained in a simple and easy manner.
