The importance of cooking skills for people with visual impairment ┃Sight Scotland

For children and young people with visual impairment, it is really important to develop the skills required to meet the demands of everyday life. Lewis Shaw tells us how learning to cook has helped build his confidence and self-sufficiency. He says it’s very important for young people with a visual impairment to learn to cook. “Now, I feel that cooking is a real benefit. I’m much more confident, I feel like I’ve got more skills - therefore, I’m more independent and I’m not scared now to try out cooking news things. “Eating food I’ve prepared, now, it feels like success. Although it might not always taste amazing, I know I’ve made it and I feel quite proud of myself because I’ve had a go at making it and I know I can do it.”
