Keeping the child's origins a secret, Lulu finds work with newspaperman Al Holland (Ralph Bellamy). Yet, after Bob rises to become mayor and the two secretly resume their affair, his wife persuades Lulu to relinquish all claims to the child and return to work for Holland, who she marries in hopes of keeping her past from sinking Bob's career.
