The more your kart snakes around on the ice, the more time you'll lose and it can become quite unwieldy. Yoshi Circuit - if you collect a mushroom or golden mushroom, take full advantage of the jump shortcut a couple of corners into the lap, it can save several seconds and give you a good jump on the competition. Remember: power-ups don't travel through the speed portal on DK Mountain.
