How Bipolar Disorder Affects Family and Friends | HealthyPlace
When I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder, I saw the effect it had on my family and friends. When someone you love struggles with an “invisible illness” like bipolar disorder, it is hard to comprehend and difficult to watch. It took me years to realize that my pain contributed to the pain of those around me; even though it was not done on purpose. In this video, I share my personal experience living with bipolar 2 disorder and the effects my mental illness has on family and friends. I have learned that educating and communicating with the people I am close to helps ease their anxiety. It is difficult to explain, but getting involved and allowing them to develop their own views about mental illness is beneficial. It is important that those of us living with bipolar disorder acknowledge our loved one's stories as well. It gives us the insight needed to build closer bonds with one another.
