The National Anthem, Remixed

On September 14, 5pm, beat box artist Shodekeh leads a new interpretation of the National Anthem on the day that Francis Scott Key penned the anthem's lyrics 200 years earlier. This contemporary take on the anthem fuses elements of hip hop, beat boxing, and classical music. This premiere performance is a statement of the ever-changing nature of America and that a diversity of experiences make up our country. Musical groups collaborating in the performance are Baltimore Boom Bap Society, a group that performs improvised hip hop; Embody, a series of the vocal arts; and Classical Revolution, a collection of classically-trained musicians who perform classical music in unexpected places.
