The mission takes place in the Pacific theater of World War II, where the player assumes the role of Private Miller, a member of the United States Marine Corps. The mission begins with a cinematic showing a group of Marines flying towards the island of Makin Atoll in a B-17 bomber. As they approach the island, the plane is hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashes into the sea. The player must then swim to shore and join up with other surviving Marines to begin their mission. The objective of the mission is to clear out enemy forces on the island and locate a downed American pilot, who has important intelligence about the Japanese military. The player must fight their way through the island, taking out Japanese soldiers using a variety of weapons, including a flamethrower and anti-tank rockets. The mission is set in a tropical environment, with dense jungle foliage and sandy beaches. The player will encounter Japanese bunkers, machine gun nests, and mortar positions, and must use cover and squad tactics to overcome the enemy defenses. As the mission progresses, the player will face increasingly difficult challenges, including enemy tanks and a final showdown with a Japanese officer wielding a samurai sword.
