Hi Beautiful Humans This a brief history of how Black History Month came to be and a chat about what Black history was like in public education. Black history is foundational to the world and American history, but we whitewash the stories to benefit the elite, wealthy, and white. To nonblack people, to white people in particular, we need to do better and educate ourselves. We need to understand, respect, and promote a more just retelling of history, recognize the role Black queer leaders have played in political movements, and learn about the ways Black women have been revolutionaries among us from the beginning of time (before anyone “found” the Americas). Here are some extra links to watch, listen and read-- just to get your foot in the door (this is by no means all-encompassing).
