For some teams, a win means everything in trying to lock down seeding, division titles or wild-card berths to get into the playoffs, while a loss could send them home earlier than expected. The postseason field has expanded by one team each in the AFC and the NFC to a total of 14, which has made late-season results more interesting. (clinched) 1. Kansas City Chiefs (14-2), champions, AFC West. The Chiefs didn't get many style points for their gritty win over the Falcons in Week 16, but the victory still secured the top seed and lone first-round bye in the AFC playoffs. They are well positioned as favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions. They rested key players such as QB Patrick Mahomes for Sunday's meaningless home finale against the Chargers. (clinched) 2. Buffalo Bills (13-3), champions, AFC East. The Bills locked up the non-bye second seed behind the Chiefs with their rout of the Dolphins to close the season, taking advantage of the Steelers deciding to rest Ben Roethlisberger and not being interested in moving up to having a second home game in the playoffs. The Bills will host the wild-card Colts in the first round. (clinched) 3. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4), champions, AFC North. The Steelers nearly beat the Browns with Mason Rudolph starting for Roethlisberger, but they ultimately fell short by two points. They would have stayed here regardless based on the Bills winning big over the Dolphins. Now the Steelers will need play the Browns a third time in the playoffs with Roethlisberger back under center this time. (clinched) 4. Tennessee Titans (11-5), champions, AFC South. The Titans survived the Texans in a wild Southwest shootout in Week 17 with a last-second field-goal to avoid overtime and lock down the division title ahead of the Colts thanks to a better division record. They will host the Ravens in a rematch of a Week 11 road win in Baltimore. (clinched) 5. Baltimore Ravens (11-5), second place, AFC North. The Ravens locked down the top wild-card spot with their wire-to-wire win over the Bengals. They will remain ahead of the Browns and Colts because of sweeping both teams. Should the Titans or Dolphins fall into the wild card, either would be one game behind both the Browns and Ravens. They will play the AFC South winnner, either the Titans or Colts, in the first round. (clinched) 6. Cleveland Browns (11-5), third place, AFC North. The Browns ended their 17-season postseason drought by getting into the playoffs as the second AFC wild card and third team from the division behind the Ravens and Steelers after they beat the resting Steelers at home in Week 17. The Colts, thanks to the Dolphins losing, are in the playoffs as the third AFC wild-card team after beating the Jaguars as expected in Week 17.
