PROBLEM 3 A reinforced concrete beam is 250mm wide with an effective depth of 400mm. Use f’c = 21 MPa and fy = 275 MPa. The section is reinforced with 4 – 25mm Ø bars. Use NSCP 2010 1. Calculate the balanced steel ratio. 2. Compute for the nominal flexural strength. 3. Calculate the design flexural strength of the section. 4. Calculate the safe service live load moment if the total service dead load moment is 96 kN-m. Assume that the basic DL+LL combination of NSCP 2010 governs. 5. If the beam is 5m long with a total service dead load moment of 96 kN-m, find the maximum concentrated service live load acting at the midspan that can be supported by the beam.
