The Story of Noah and the Flood The biblical account of Noah and the Flood is one of the most famous narratives in the Book of Genesis (chapters 6–9). It describes God’s judgment on a corrupt world and His mercy toward a righteous man. Biblical Summary (Genesis 6–9) Humanity had become deeply wicked, filled with violence and corruption. God regretted creating mankind and decided to destroy it with a flood, but Noah “found favor” with God because he was righteous. • God instructed Noah (who was 600 years old) to build an ark made of gopher wood: 300 cubits long, 50 wide, and 30 high (roughly 450–510 feet long, depending on cubit measurement), with three decks and a door on the side. • Noah was to take his wife, three sons (Shem, Ham, Japheth), and their wives aboard. • For animals: Seven pairs of every clean animal (and seven birds), and one pair of every unclean animal—to preserve life. • Rain fell for 40 days and nights, but the waters prevailed for 150 days, covering the highest mountains. • All life outside the ark perished. • Noah sent out a raven and then a dove to test the waters; the dove returned with an olive leaf, signaling dry land. • The ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. • After about a year, Noah and his family exited, offered sacrifices, and God promised never again to destroy the earth with a flood, sealing the covenant with a rainbow. #jesus #god #flood #trending
