It's not like your partner loves you one day and doesn't the next. Romantic feelings for your partner have two undeniable properties - firstly, they can vary in intensity, and secondly, they change over time. Therefore, it's easy to compare your partner's feelings to the temperature in a room. You'll never ask if the room is hot or cold—just as it's not worth asking if your partner loves you or not. Instead, it's better to consider the intensity of their feelings. Besides, just because your partner loved you two months ago doesn't mean they love you now. But just because they now speak or act as if they no longer care doesn't mean their feelings for you can't return—especially if you consciously take care of them. Feelings for another person are nothing more than chemistry and neural connections in our brains, which have been slowly built and won't disappear overnight. Therefore, faded feelings are much easier to rekindle than developing new ones for someone else. This is one of the reasons why exes are at the highest risk of infidelity when someone is already in a new relationship. So, if you're in a relationship and your partner goes to a club, the chances of them meeting someone they'll cheat on you with are very low. However, the chances of infidelity are much higher when your partner has contact with their ex—especially if it's regular. If your partner broke up with you, this decision didn't happen overnight either—their feelings weakened over time—often over many months, sometimes even years, until they finally dropped so low that they decided to break up. This doesn't mean, however, that these feelings have completely disappeared. The exact nature of these feelings after a breakup for your partner is a very individual matter. If your partner broke up because of a serious addiction, they may still have relatively strong feelings for you after the breakup—yet the logical obstacles are so strong that, despite these feelings, they prevent your partner from returning. However, if you've seriously upset the commitment balance to your detriment and overwhelmed your partner with complaints about a lack of time and love, then immediately after the breakup your ex may actually feel immense relief that the relationship is over. However, when you stop talking, focus on your own life, and your ex sees that not only are you no longer pursuing them but that you might soon enter a new relationship, their feelings may grow again. This doesn't mean that your ex's strong withdrawal will turn into overwhelming love and a desire to return overnight. In practice, reluctance to contact over time turns into curiosity about what's going on with you and openness to contact. This, in turn, can turn into stronger interest, and only regular contact and attractive behavior on your part can turn into stronger feelings, followed by a desire to return.
