"Charlie Don't Surf" is the sixth mission in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It takes place in a Middle Eastern country where the player, controlling Sergeant Paul Jackson of the United States Marine Corps (USMC), participates in a raid on a TV station suspected of being used by the enemy leader, Khaled Al-Asad, to broadcast propaganda. The mission starts with the 1st Force Recon unit storming a beach via Sea Knight helicopters, reminiscent of the Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now (where the phrase "Charlie Don't Surf" originates). The Marines fight through urban combat scenarios, clearing out hostile forces in the streets and inside the heavily fortified TV station. However, upon reaching the broadcast room, they discover that Al-Asad is not there—only a pre-recorded video is playing. This mission emphasizes urban warfare tactics, close-quarters combat, and the unpredictability of modern conflicts, reinforcing Modern Warfare's theme of war's changing nature.
