Iranians hold protest against Israel in Tehran

Protesters chanting, UPSOUND: "Death to Israel" LEADIN: Iranian demonstrators gathered in Tehran to protest against Israel after the most recent fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants that ended with a cease-fire. STORYLINE: An anti-Israeli protest was held in Tehran on Tuesday, following the recent fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip. A cease-fire took effect late Sunday in a bid to end nearly three days of fighting. Israeli aircraft had pummeled targets in Gaza since Friday, while the Iran-backed Palestinian Jihad militant group fired hundreds of rockets at Israel in response. The deputy commander-in-chief of Iran's powerful revolutionary guards mocked Israel for what he described as "suffering defeat" at the hands of just one Palestinian group. "They (Israelis) couldn't even withstand a war against the Islamic Jihad group, and they suffered defeat and accepted conditions set by the Jihad," said Admiral Ali Fadavi. The recent flare-up was the worst fighting between Israel and Gaza militant groups since Israel and Hamas fought an 11-day war last year. The latest violence killed dozens of Palestinians and disrupted the lives of hundreds of thousands of Israelis.
