Voice in grammar shows whether the subject of a sentence is doing the action or receiving it. 🌟 1️⃣ Active Voice 👉 When the subject performs the action. 📖 Structure: Subject + Verb + Object ✅ Examples: Riya wrote a letter. The teacher praised the student. The cat chased the mouse. 👉 Here, the subject (Riya, teacher, cat) is doing the action. 🌟 2️⃣ Passive Voice 👉 When the subject receives the action. 📖 Structure: Object + Helping Verb + Past Participle + by + Subject ✅ Examples: A letter was written by Riya. The student was praised by the teacher. The mouse was chased by the cat. 👉 Here, the subject (letter, student, mouse) is receiving the action. 🔁 Active → Passive Conversion Rules Tense Active Voice Passive Voice Simple Present She writes a letter. A letter is written by her. Present Continuous She is writing a letter. A letter is being written by her. Present Perfect She has written a letter. A letter has been written by her. Simple Past She wrote a letter. A letter was written by her. Past Continuous She was writing a letter. A letter was being written by her. Past Perfect She had written a letter. A letter had been written by her. Simple Future She will write a letter. A letter will be written by her. Modal (can/may/must) She can write a letter. A letter can be written by her. 💡 Key Tips Only transitive verbs (verbs with objects) can be changed into the passive voice. The object in the active sentence becomes the subject in the passive one.
