(28 Mar 1996) T/I: 11:17:04 GS 10:18:28 Israeli forces arrested almost 400 Palestinian students early Thursday (28/3) in the biggest security operation on the West Bank since the extension of Palestinian autonomy in the region last year, officials said. Most of those rounded up in the pre-dawn raids were students from the Gaza Strip studying at the West Bank university of Bir Zeit who had ignored orders by the Israeli authorities to return home after the recent series of suicide bombings in Israel. Palestinian President Yasser Arafat denounced the sweep as a "breach of what has been signed and agreed to" in Israeli-PLO self-rule accords.
