Range Hot Surface Light Troubleshooting

A broken hot surface switch on one of the burners causes the Hot Surface light to stay on constantly. To find out which surface element to replace, you’ll lift the glass cooktop and test each of the hot surface switches using a multimeter. We’ll show you how to do this safely. Transcript: When you turn on the stovetop an element switch trips to turn on the Hot Surface light. When you turn off the element the switch turns off as the element cools. If the Hot Surface light always stays on, a switch is stuck. To find the stuck switch unplug the range and lift the cooktop. Disconnect the switch wires. Measure continuity. OL (open load) = switch is okay. Continue checking switches. 0 ohms = switch is bad. Once you replace that element, you've solved the problem.
